Coracle rides are common across Karnataka, especially on the Cauvery, Tungabhadra Rivers & at the Ranganthittu National Bird Park. A coracle is an oval shaped light weight country boat, similar to half a walnut shell. Made of interwoven thin strips of wood, it is strengthened with layers of leather, resin or tar at its bottom & on the sides. As the bottom is flat it is used effectively for short river crossings, a single paddle helps steer the boat
Coracles are sturdy & strong, contrary to belief it can carry decent loads. Well known circuits are at the Tungabhadra river at Hampi (world heritage site), the Sangam (meeting point) at Talacauvery & for observing birds at the Ranganthittu Bird National Park, all in Karnataka.
My own personal opinion: a thumbs up & a unique way of getting to know India even closer & better. It’s rides like these that remain etched in memory, modern modes of transportation have become commonplace. Yet another reason to visit Incredible India!!
